ADMK weds Congress : but needs CM (Jayalalitha's) Nod

Here’s a love affair that needs Poes Garden nod to bloom. Laasya, 26, and Naveen, 30, belong to different political backgrounds and cannot marry without Tamil Nadu CM J. Jayalalithaa’s permission.

While Laasya, an MD student, is the daughter of AIADMK leader and former Lok Sabha deputy speaker M. Thambidurai, Naveen, an assistant professor at Sri Ramachandra Medical College, is the son of Congress leader and four-time MLA C. Gnanasekaran.

The two got engaged in November 2010, but their wedding has been delayed.

Thambidurai apparently has been dragging feet over meeting CM as the wedding could be attended by leaders of rival DMK and Congress.

“I have suggested I can refrain from inviting friends for the wedding. The bride’s family can conduct the wedding the way it wants. I can organise a reception where I will invite my friends,” Gnanasekaran told DC.

“For me, politics is different from family affairs. I am sure our chief minister also thinks so. We hope the wedding will happen soon,” he said.

The couple had met at Sri Ramachandra Medical College, where Laasya was pursuing MBBS and Naveen MD in radiology. The two also found out they were distant kin. There seemed no hurdle in their love but politics.

Sources said Laasya has finally moved to remove this hurdle too. She visited Poes Garden last week and left a letter seeking Jayalalithaa’s appointment for her wedding. The couple hopes CM concedes.
